    Brothers Joel C. and Isaac H. Garretson settled in the vicinity of Section 27 Jackson Twp Henry County Iowa in June of 1837.  The first offical US Government Survey of Jackson Twp commenced on August 27, 1837 and was completed September 21, 1837.  As depicted on the survey, the Garretsons had constructed their first house. Although there are no remnants of the first house, the
